Mariana Mazzucato (PhD) is Director of the Institute for Innovation & Public Purpose at University College London (UCL) and holds the Chair of Economics of Innovation and Public Value. The Italian-American economist is the author of the highly acclaimed book “The Capital of the State: A Different History of Innovation and Growth”, which was on the Financial Times “Book of the Year” list in 2013. In the same year, New Republic named her one of the 3 most important “Thinkers about Innovation” and the following year Mazzucato received the New Statesman SPERI Prize for Political Economy and a year later the Hans-Matthöfer-Prize.
