Jimmy Wales is the founder of the online encyclopaedia Wikipedia and is one of the great Internet pioneers. TIME Magazine named him one of the 100 most influential personalities in 2006.
In March 2000, Jimmy Wales founded the online information project Nupedia, of which Wikipedia is a side project, and in 2003 he founded the non-profit movement Wikimedia Foundation, which is dedicated to the further development of Wikipedia and of which he is a board member.
