Harald Welzer is one of Germany’s most prominent critics of growth and one of the most consistent thought leaders of our time on the path to a desirable future. He became famous with his bestsellers “Climate wars: What is being killed for in the 21st century” and “Think for yourself: A guide to resistance”. The charitable foundation he founded, “Futurzwei. Stiftung Zukunftsfähigkeit”, a charitable foundation he founded, provides new food for thought and examples for a future worth living and “fit for grandchildren”.
Harald Welzer (born 1958) studied sociology, political science and literature at the University of Hanover, where he gained his doctorate in sociology in 1988. He habilitated in social psychology in 1993 and in sociology in 2001. He has been an honorary professor of transformation design at the University of Flensburg since 2012.
He is one of the pioneers of the school of thought critical of capitalism and believes that a small number of people can initiate change in any area. The motto of his foundation “Futurzwei” is: We will have done something. Welzer and his colleagues want to tell stories of exemplary projects that point to the future: ecological, social, not oriented towards growth and profit.
The eloquent speaker is a committed advocate of a sustainable, personal lifestyle of “thinking along”. For Harald Welzer, it is clear that a “sustainable culture of living and doing business is not the result of scientific knowledge or moral appeals. We need visions of better, fairer, more sustainable lifestyles. Examples of how doing without is not only necessary, but can also be fun.
